Nolan Ung

Nolan Ung received his Bachelors of Science in Botany with a concentration in plant cell, developmental and molecular Biology from the University Of California Riverside in the spring of 2010. While at UCR He studied meristem maintenance and flowering in the model species Arabidopsis under the mentoring of Dr. Harley Smith.

He was fortunate enough to be able to present his research at multiple conferences such as the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) national conference. In 2009 he was awarded the Center for Plant Cell biology's "Outstanding Undergraduate researcher award" along with the sole "Academic Excellence Award in Botany" in 2010.

Nolan investigated the dynamic process of endomembrane trafficking through several interdisciplinary approaches including chemical genetics and video bioinformatics. First, using chemical genetics he dissected novel trafficking pathways that are vital for normal cell function. Secondly, he used image analysis and image processing to quantify cellular phenotypes.

Nolan recieved his Ph.D. in Plant Biology from the University of California Riverside in 2014
